Dr. Emily Goodman-Scott
Dr. Emily Goodman-Scott is an Associate Professor at Old Dominion University, and a previous school counselor, special education teacher, and mental health counselor. She published over two dozen studies in national, peer-reviewed journals, typically related to school counseling, especially Multi-tiered Systems of Support. Dr. Goodman-Scott is a national speaker and enjoys partnering with school districts. Her co-edited book, A School Counselor's Guide to MTSS (Routledge) was published in 2019.
Biography
Dr. Emily Goodman-Scott is an Associate Professor, Graduate Program Director, and School Counseling Coordinator at Old Dominion University, VA. She previously worked as a school counselor, special education teacher, and in several mental health settings counseling youth.She is passionate about researching school counseling topics, including Multi-tiered Systems of Support, preparation, practices, elementary school counseling, and counseling children with exceptionalities. She's published approximately 24 articles in national, peer-reviewed journals, including Professional School Counseling, Journal of Counseling and Development, and Counselor Education and Supervision. Her co-edited book, A School Counselor's Guide to MTSS (Routledge) was published in 2019.
She teachers both master’s and doctoral courses in ODU’s CACREP accredited program, a recipient of the national ACES Outstanding Counselor Education program award.
After nearly 10 years as a board member for the Virginia School Counselor Association, Dr. Goodman-Scott served as Chair/President in 2019/2020. She is also on the board for the Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling, a division of the American Counseling Association. She co-coordinates the School Counseling Interest Network for the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, advises ODU’s chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, and represented Virginia at several White House School Counseling Convenings. Further, she is on the editorial review board for the Professional School Counseling journal and the Journal of Child and Adolescent Counseling. She enjoys conducting national and local conference presentations, as well as in-services and partnerships with local school districts. Finally, Dr. Goodman-Scott is proud to be a recipient of the Insiders Business: "Top 40 Under 40" recognition.
She earned both a Ph.D. and M.A.Ed. from Virginia Tech and a B.S. from James Madison University. Dr. Goodman-Scott is a licensed school counselor (VA), a Licensed Professional Counselor (VA), a Nationally Certified Counselor and School Counselor, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor.
