I am a historian and currently full professor of Contemporary History at the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao (Spain)

Biography

In 1988, I completed my PhD in History at the University of Bielefeld (Germany) and was Assistant Professor at the same institution before taking up a lectureship at the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao, Spain) in 1991. Since 2004 I am a full Professor of Contemporary History ("Catedrático") at the University of the Basque Country and between 2004 and 2009 I was also Vice-Chancellor. I am author, co-author or editor of 17 books and about 120 articles and book chapters.

Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

    History and theory of nationalism; social movements; historiography; agrarian history; food history (especially history of wine in Spain)
