Dr Fishman began his career as a health professional. After noticing that many of his patients were presenting with diseases caused by a sedentary lifestyle, he enrolled in a post graduate qualification in transport planning and set up his own transport consultancy specialising in active and sustainable transport (Institute for Sensible Transport). The Institute is now almost 15 years old and he continues to work with mostly government clients to assist them in getting the most out of their transport system.

He lives in Melbourne with his wife and two children. He has several bikes, including a Dutch cargo bike.
