Alejandra Trejo Nieto
I am an economist with a PhD in Development Studies. My research agenda reflects interdisciplinary concerns about the issues of urbanisation, economic development and governance. Currently I am a professor at El Colegio de Mexico. I have been a Fulbright visiting scholar at the University of California, a visiting researcher at CREPIB in Colombia and a visiting scholar at the Brussels Centre for Urban Studies. I am the chair of the Latin America division of the Regional Studies Association.
Biography
Alejandra Trejo is an economist and holds a PhD in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia in the UK. She is currently a professor at the Centre for Demographic, Urban and Environmental Studies, El Colegio de Mexico. She was the academic coordinator of the master program in Urban Studies in this center (2013-2015). Recently she has been a Fulbright visiting scholar at the University of California (2018), a visiting researcher at CREPIB in Colombia (2018), and a visiting research fellow at the Brussels Centre for Urban Studies (2019). She is a member of the National Researchers System in Mexico, ambassador to Mexico of the Regional Studies Association, and a UKRI International Development peer review college member.Education

Issues of city statecraft require deep analysis, deliberation, planning and discussion because of the governing challenges and choices involved. Public budgets have been a potent and determinative political and policy instrument, but no tool of statecraft is becoming as meaningful as funding and financing.
