BiographyI have more than 28 years of experience working for academic institutions, government agencies, industries and international organizations. I am a Professor of Environmental Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Mauritius. I hold a Diplome D’Ingenieur from the Ecole Polytechnique de Montpellier (France) and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Mauritius. I was a Fulbright visiting research scholar at Virginia Tech, USA. I have been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in environmental management and environmental engineering and has been successful in attracting research income from national and international funding organizations and has a good record in higher degree by research supervision. My research skill sets are broad based as evidenced from the list of publications, ranging from environmental pollution, water resources management, solid waste management, treatment of domestic and industrial wastewaters, environmental modelling, cleaner production in industry and life cycle assessments. I have more than 25 publications in refereed international journals with impact factors and more than 35 publications in refereed International Conference Proceedings.
I have held a number of senior management positions such as Head of Department of Civil Engineering, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Mauritius.
I have acted as Technical Adviser on Environmental Management to the Ministry of Environment of the Government of Mauritius. I have been fortunate to undertake several consultancy projects for national and global clientele including the Government of Mauritius, the African Development Bank (ADB), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP), Government of Seychelles, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production(ARSCP). I work very closely with UNEP and the ARSCP in the areas of Green Economy , Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) and Life Cycle Assessment(LCA).
