BiographyProf. Anandhan holds BSc in Chemistry (MKU, 1995), MSc in Applied Chemistry (MKU, 1997), MTech in Polymer Technology (CUSAT, 1999) and PhD in Polymer Science and Technology (IIT-Kharagpur, 2004). He was a gold medallist in both BSc and MSc.
He was a visiting research associate at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the University of New South Wales, Australia in 2002. He was a post-doctoral fellow and Lecturer in Inha University, Korea (2004-2005) in the erstwhile Textile Engineering (currently Chemical Engineering). Subsequently, he was an Assistant Professor in the department of Materials Science at AIMST University, Malaysia during 2005-2008. He joined the National Institute of Technology Karnataka as Assistant Professor in 2009 and later became Associate Professor in 2012. He rose to the rank of Professor (full) in May 2018. He was the Head of his department during 2018-2020.
His research areas are: Functional nanotextiles from ceramics and polymers by electrospinning; Materials for energy storage and conversion; Polymer nanocomposites and multi-phase systems; Chemical sensors from nanostructured polymers and nanoceramics. Under his mentorship, seven students have earned their doctoral degrees so far and three more have been working towards their PhD. He has also guided 30 master's research projects. He is an author of 72 international journal articles; a patent; 3 books and 9 book chapters. His edited book titled ‘Advances in Polymer Materials and Technology’ was published in 2016 by CRC Press, USA. He was the principal investigator of 2 sponsored research projects. Currently, he is part of the teams that have currently secured highly competitive research grants from DST, India and NSF, USA. He has been a referee for more than 50 international journals of repute. Australia-India council fellowship and DST fast track award are noteworthy among the awards that he has received. He was Elected Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and Indian Chemical Society, in 2017 and 2019, respectively.
