Dyslexia Spell

As a dyslexia specialist, I have written three books. The first is a phonological fairytale called 'From Tragic to Magic'. It is designed to help children under the age of seven, to practise phonological awareness skills. It also encourages conversational skills with the adult, offering different levels of questions. The second 2 books are in a set. The storybook 'Who Put the Spell Into Spelling' comes with the workbook, designed to support children with fun rules for tricky spellings (7-13yrs).

Biography

After working for many years as a classroom teacher, I retrained in order to become a dyslexia specialist. I qualified to understand and teach learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) and then became certified to diagnose and assess SpLD learners.
With these skills, I was able to have a number of different jobs including Managing Inclusion, Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Learning Support Coordinator, Specialist Learning Support Teacher and a Lecturer for OCR Level 5 'Teaching and Understanding Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties'.
I lectured at Fairley House School for dyslexia (London)  for many years and I also taught as a specialist teacher in Calder House School for dyslexia (Wiltshire).

Additionally, I have been a governor for Queensmill School for autism and a governor for Cambridge School for secondary SEN pupils.

Furthermore, I was a Councillor for four years, where my role was the Cabinet Member for Education. One of the jobs I took very seriously was leading a review of SEN in the local authority, were we were able to implement changes for the better. I also secured free places for local teachers to become qualified with the OCR Level 5 certificate. I then led and taught this course with a 100% pass rate.

I really love teaching others how to work with learners with SpLDs and my ambition is to spread the word on how best to support dyslexic learners, through my books and through my teaching.
