BiographyWilliam (Bill) O’Toole is an international events development specialist. He recently returned from Saudi Arabia working with Deloitte assessing and advising the inaugural nationwide festivals and the development of the new event cities. His new international textbooks include: Crowd Management: Risk Security Health (2020) and Risk Management for Events (2021). In 2018 he wrote the standard manual for crowd management for the Australian Government.
He has worked with event teams in many developing countries, such as Uganda, Liberia, Kenya, Sudan and Jordan for the United Nations consulting on the development of their events and festivals. This work includes advising Government on how to create, grow, evaluate and maximize the ROI of their event sector and create a viable and flexible events strategy.
He has written five international textbooks on event management and currently teaches a Master of Event Management course in L'École de Management de Normandie (Paris) and International College of Management Sydney. Each year Bill trains festivals and event professionals at the IFEA Event School in Wheeling, West Virginia, USA.
In 2002 Bill originated the concept of the Event Management Body of Knowledge (EMBOK.org) that has become an international standard. He advised on the development of the International Competency Standard for Event Management now used in Canada and South Africa.
In 2018 in recognition of his contribution to the events sector, Bill was inducted into the International Festival & Events Association (ifea.com) Hall of Fame.
Far from just being versed in theory, Bill has created and managed special events, concert tours in 30 countries including Vietnam, China, Nepal, Russian Far East, India and festivals in Australia.
