Cem Tinaz is the Director of the School of Sports Sciences and Technology at Istanbul Bilgi University since 2015. He is also a board member of the Turkish Tennis Federation since 2009 and current vice-president. Areas of research interest for Dr Tinaz include sport policy and development, administration, legacies and impacts of sport mega events - all integrated with his primary area of expertise in sports management.

Biography

Cem Tinaz is the Director of the School of Sport Sciences and Technology at Istanbul Bilgi University, Turkey. Additionally, he works for the MA in Sport Management at the Bahcesehir University (BAU) and Sports Education Study Program at the School of Postgraduate at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) as a visiting lecturer.

Dr Tinaz has been a board member of the Turkish Tennis Federation since 2009 and the current vice president. He is responsible for mainly managing international events, sports development, marketing & sponsoring, and partly on media relations.

He has participated in numerous international sports events held in Turkey as tournament coordinator, director or marketing manager, including WTA Championships 2012 and 2013, Izmir Cup ATP Challenger 2010-2011-2012, WTA Istanbul Cup 2010, ATP Blackrock Tour of Champions 2008, etc. Dr Tinaz was also appointed as the tennis branch's competition manager at the Mediterranean Games 2013, which was held in Mersin on 20-30 June 2013.

Besides his professional duties, he is a regular writer at "Tennis World", Turkey's most popular tennis magazine, Digiturk's (official broadcaster of Turkish Football League) Online Communication Platforms for tennis and Men’s Fitness Magazine Turkey.

Sports organizations, however, are usually considered an integral part of society as profit-oriented businesses. This article investigates why, how, and under which conditions countries naturalise foreign-born athletes. Such nationality transfers are an under-researched topic in academic literature on citizenship and on elite sport. This can be explained by macro data which shows that naturalisations are a negligible factor to explain the overall, historical performance of countries in international sport.

Driving first-time and repeat spectators to a motor sport event

This paper aims to examine the differences in expenditure and satisfaction level between first-time and repeat spectators to a motor sport event, as well as differences in their intention to return and to recommend the host destination. A structured questionnaire was developed and data were collected on-site during the 2012 Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) World Rally Championship (WRC) in Sardinia via 210 interviews.

This paper reviews former and current sport policies in Turkey, focusing specifically on the historical development of sport administrative bodies in Turkey, national government’s administrative system for implementing sport policy, and the intersection of sport policy with relevant government policies. Secondary resources and personal communications with current and former high-ranking Turkish sports administrators formed the bases for the paper.
