Associate Professor Kelly McWilliam’s research focuses on screen media with emphases in Australian, queer, and genre cinemas, as well as screen media impact more broadly. Kelly's books include Australian Genre Film (w/Mark David Ryan, Routledge, 2021), Ana Kokkinos: An Oeuvre of Outsiders (Edinburgh UP, 2019), Screen Media (w/Jane Stadler, 2009), and Story Circle (w/John Hartley, 2009).


Dr Kelly McWilliam is an Associate Professor in Communication and Media Studies at the University of Southern Queensland. Kelly holds degrees in literature, media, and psychology and is the Immediate Past President of the Cultural Studies Association of Australasia. Kelly's research focuses on screen media, with emphases in Australian, genre, and queer cinemas, and screen media impact more broadly. Kelly is the author or editor of four books and 30+ refereed publications. Her most recent books are Ana Kokkinos: An Oeuvre of Outsiders (Edinburgh University Press, 2019) and Australian Genre Film (with Mark David Ryan, Routledge, 2021). Kelly has also completed work on two ARC Linkage Projects worth $400,000 and has won two research excellence awards and six teaching awards (including a School Citation). She is currently the Strategic Alignment Director, an Academic Team Leader, and the Discipline Lead of Media Studies for the School of Humanities and Communication. Outside of work, Kelly likes hiking, renovating, and doting on her pets.
