Douglas Cunningham

Prof. Dr.
Brandenburg Technical University

My work focuses on the relationship between psychology and computer science. After receiving a PhD in psychology, I was a researcher at Logicon Technical Services, the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, and the University of Tuebingen, where I received my German "Habilitation" in Cognition Sciences (psychology and computer science). I am currently a computer science professor at BTU.

Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

Much of my research focuses on the perception and (artificial) synthesis of conversations, with particular emphasis on facial expressions. Increasingly, I am working in the field of image statistics, with an emphasis on what they can tell us about perception and how they can be used in computer graphics. I have also investigated issues in  sensorimotor adaptation, computational aesthetics, object recognition, postural control, and Virtual Reality.
