Dr. Zou is the lead author on a statistical monograph entitled "Statistical Evaluation of Diagnostic Performance: Topics in ROC Analysis." In addition, Dr. Zou is also the second author on a statistical monograph entitled "Patient-Reported Outcomes: Measurement, Implementation and Interpretation." Both were published by Chapman & Hall/CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group.

Biography

Kelly H. Zou, PhD, PStat®, ASA Fellow, is a Senior Director and Statistics Lead at Pfizer Inc. She received both an MA and a PhD degree in Statistics from the University of Rochester, following a BA in Mathematics (summa cum laude) with a Minor in Physics. She completed joint Postdoctoral Fellowships in both Health Care Policy and Radiology at Harvard Medical School. Previously, she was an Associate Professor of Radiology and Lecturer in Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School and Director of Biostatistics at its affiliated teaching hospitals. In addition, she was an Associate Director of Rates at Barclays Capital. Dr. Zou is an Accredited Professional Statistician and a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA).

Dr. Zou has published well over 120 peer-reviewed articles listed via PubMed. Her health care policy research focuses on the design and analysis of multi-center health quality of care studies, as well as development of improved methods for accuracy and reliability measures. Her statistical methodological work has focused on outcomes research and evaluations of complex high-dimensional imaging and big observational data. Clinical applications include radiology, neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology, urology and respiratory diseases.

Her work on ROC analysis has led her to be the recipient of the Stauffer Award for the best article published in "Academic Radiology" in 1999. She received the First Place Prize in the ASA Biopharmaceutical Section’s Poster Competition in 2009, the Second and Third Places in the Biopharmaceutical Section’s Poster Competition in 2010, the First and Second Places in the Biopharmaceutical Section’s Poster Competition and the Second Prize in the Statistical Significance Contest in 2011, the Third Place in the Biopharmaceutical Section’s Poster Competition and the First Prize in Statistical Significance Contest in 2012, the Third Place in the Biopharmaceutical Section’s Poster Competition in 2013, the Second Place in the Biopharmaceutical Section’s Poster Competition in 2014, and an Honorable Mention Award in the Statistical Significance Contest in 2014. She received the Poster Finalist Award during the 2011 International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research Conference. She received Editor’s Recognition Awards for Reviewing with Special Distinction for “Radiology” in 2005, 2006 and 2014 and for "Academic Radiology" in 2014. In addition, she was twice the recipient of the Travel Stipend Award from the Society of Health Services Research in Radiology.

Dr. Zou has been an Associate Editor for "Radiology" and "Statistics in Medicine," as well as a Deputy Editor for "Academic Radiology." She was one of the Mathematics and Statistics Theme Editors for "Philosophical Transactions of the (UK) Royal Society, Series A", which is the oldest scientific journal in the English-speaking counties, a Referee for over multiple professional statistical and medical journals.

She has been the Principal Investigator of Grant R01-LM007861, entitled "Improved Tumor Resection in Image-Guided Neurosurgery," sponsored by the National Library of Medicine of the National Institutes of Health (NIH/NLM); Grant R01-GM074068, entitled "Bioinformatics Tools for Multi-Center Diagnostic Trials," sponsored by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIH/NIGMS); Grant R03-HS13234, entitled "Bayesian Methods for Sample Size Calculation," sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (NIH/AHRQ).
