Biography
I am Professor of HRM at Dublin City University Business School where I lead the HR Directors’ Roundtable. I am also Principal Academic Advisor at the Maturity Institute- a global network striving to create vibrant, healthy and successful organizations through maximizing the value of people.I previously held academic appointments at the University of Sheffield and NUI Galway and visiting appointments at King’s College London and Strathclyde University.
My research and consulting interests focus on talent management and global mobility. A key focus of my recent work is on understanding the how employees add value in organsiations and how organisations can support key employee groups, including international assignees, in generating sustainable performance. In 2014 I was named as one of the most influential international thinkers in the field of HR by HR Magazine. My consulting and speaking engagements include multinational companies in Denmark, Germany, Ireland, the Middle East and the UK.
I have published numerous papers in leading international outlets such as Human Relations, Human Resource Management, Industrial and Labor Relations Review and Journal of Vocational Behavior. He has edited seven books, most recently The Routledge Companion to International HRM with Paula Caligiuri and Geoff Wood.I am also Editor in Chief of Human Resource Management Journal and Senior Consulting Editor at Journal of World Business. I also sits on a dozen editorial boards including, British Journal of Management, International Journal of Human Resource Management and Journal of Management Studies. In 2015 the impact of my research was recognised with the DCU President’s Award for Research.
