Director of Programmes
Leadership Foundation for Higher Education

I've had the privilege to lead and manage in two universities in the UK, followed by several years working at the Leadership Foundation. Here, I engage annually with over 200 leaders in all kinds of job roles in a rich range of institutions. My writing and research interests focus on the part leaders play in shaping the organisational cultures of the institutions where they work, and in turn on the contribution those cultures make to workplace motivation, engagement and performance.

Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

    • Change management in higher educational leadership
    • Leadership of learning-centred management cultures in Higher Education
    • Action learning as a strategic leadership tool in professional learning communities
    • Impact of leadership development interventions

Personal Interests

I'm fascinated by the changing social and cultural landscape of Southern California and, on a different note, by the history and influence of the Andalusian city of Cadiz in the late eighteenth century. I'm a creative writer in my spare time, and have written four novels, a volume of short stories and had a serialised novella published in the Plymouth evening newspaper in the early 2000s. I also love countryside walking, especially on the South West coastal footpath in Devon and Cornwall.
