BiographyI am a professor of English and director of the University Writing Center at the University of Louisville. I write and teach on issues of literacy, identity, pedagogy, digital media, and popular culture. In addition to my Routledge books, my books include Shimmering Literacies: Popular Culture and Reading and Writing Online, Identity Papers: Literacy and Power in Higher Education, and Tuned In: Television and the Teaching of Writing.
Areas of Research / Professional Expertise
My recurring research interests have been the intersections of the literacy practices people engage in in their daily lives and the literacy practices they encounter in schools and universities. As digital media technologies change how all of us engage in reading and writing, my research has recently taken me more deeply into the study of online technologies and multimodal texts, including popular culture. I also remain interested in how identity is constructed and represented in writing, from the academic world to creative nonfiction.
