    Biography

    ALON Y. AVIDAN is Director, the Neurology Clinic; Associate Director, the Sleep Disorders Center; and Associate Professor of Neurology, University of California David Geffen School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California, USA. Dr. Avidan obtained his M.D. from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Washington, D.C., USA. He is Chair of the MEDSleep subcommittee of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and he is also a member of the American Medical Association, The William Beaumont Honor Medical Society, and the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Avidan has been named on both the "Who’s Who in Medical Sciences Education" and "Best Doctors in America" lists. He is Chair of the Resident Education Committee and director of the CME course, "Advances in Sleep Medicine: Practical Approaches in Primary Care" at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. Dr. Avidan is a frequent editor and reviewer for several journals, including Annals of Neurology and the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.

    CATHY A. ALESSI is Associate Director, Clinical and Health Services Research; Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center; Veterans Administration Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, and Professor of Medicine, University of California David Geffen School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California, USA. Dr. Alessi received her M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Dr. Alessi is a member of several professional organizations in geriatric medicine, gerontology, and sleep medicine; she is on the Board of Directors of the American Geriatrics Society; she is a past chair of the Circadian Rhythm Membership section and past member of the Standards of Practice Committee of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
