    This is Volume IV of sixteen in the Oriental series on Buddhism. First published in 1878, this book includes texts from the Buddhist Canon or 'Dhammapada' with narratives. Dhammapada may be rendered Scriptural texts or verses includes, authentic Texts gathered from ancient canonical books-that are generally connected with some incident or other in the History of Buddha, helping to illustrate everyday life in India at the time when they were written, as well as the method of teaching adopted by the founder of tis religion.

    Part 1 Dhammapad A, or Verses From the Law, With Accompanying Payables, Shamans F?-Kheu, Fa-Lih; Chapter 1 Impermanency (Aniccatâ); Chapter 2 1Chinese “kian hioh.” We observe that in Cod. iii. the title of this second chapter is “Desire” or “Lust”(Tanhá), and its verses agree with 212, ss. of the Pâli; Chapter 3 The Disciple, Or “?râvaka.”; Chapter 4 Simple Faith; Chapter 5 Careful Observance of Moral Duties; Chapter 6 On Reflection; Chapter 7 On Love or Mercifulness, Mettá; Chapter 8 On Words (Conversation); Chapter 9 1Here we come into agreement with the division of chapters in the Pâli. This chapter is called “Yamakavaggo,” i.e., “double verses.” It agrees in title with K. xviii.
