Based on over fifteen years of groundbreaking research, Developing Creative Thinking Skills helps learners demonstrably increase their own creative thinking skills. Focusing on divergent thinking, twelve inventive chapters build one’s capacity to generate a wide range of ideas, both as an individual and as a collaborator. This innovative textbook outlines a semester-long structure for the development of creative thinking skills and can easily be utilized as a self-directed format for those learning outside of a classroom. Readers are stimulated to maximize their own creativity through active exercises, challenges to personal limits and assumptions, and ideas that can help create powerful habits of variance.

    Biography

Brad Hokanson is the Mertie W. Buckman Professor of Design Education at the University of Minnesota, USA. He has received multiple teaching awards and has a diverse academic record, including degrees in Art, Architecture, and Urban Design, and a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology.

After 25 years teaching instructional design and instructional graphics to students who do not consider themselves creative, but who want and need to exercise creativity in their studies and future work, I welcome this volume as a remarkable new resource. Its genius lies in merging solid theory around creativity with concrete activities tested by hundreds of students in Dr. Hokanson’s own course, all presented in straightforward prose and organized for easy understanding. This book will become a key entry in the reading lists for my graduate design courses.
