This book focuses on leadership -- what it is, how it works, and how complex, multi-layered and multi-dimensional it is -- and how it will change in the years ahead. If we are to build tomorrow’s leaders today, we need to anticipate what skills, temperaments, and specific competencies will be valuable as we face future needs. If the past is a predictor of the future, the world of tomorrow will be characterized by rapid change, new technology, greater diversity, increased globalization, and the need for lifelong learning.

As a political scientist and presidential scholar, Michael Genovese incorporates a wide range of disciplinary perspectives and research on leadership in this book to give students, practitioners, and leadership scholars a welcome and engaging look to the future.

    Biography

Michael A. Genovese received his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. He currently holds the Loyola Chair of leadership studies, is a professor of political science, and director of the Institute of Leadership Studies at Loyola Marymount University in California. In 2006, he was made a fellow of Queens College, Oxford University. Professor Genovese has written over thirty books on leadership.

"Genovese (Loyola Marymount Univ.) has written a relevant, succinct, and well-documented monograph on the subject of leadership: what it is, how it works, and how complex and multidimensional it is. Undergraduate students of business and management would benefit from this book, especially if it served as an adjunct resource to a traditional leadership textbook. Summing Up:  Recommended."

M.J. Safferstone, University of Mary Washington, in CHOICE, July 2014

"Michael Genovese is among the more thoughtful and accomplished of our social scientists. No surprise, then, that this latest in his long line of books, Building Tomorrow's Leaders Today, is as grounded in the classics as in the contemporaneous context. The book has the advantage of being short and to the point—while providing a careful and considered framework for what leadership development in the second decade of the 21st century might look like."

    Barbara Kellerman, Harvard University, USA

"Michael Genovese is a terrific scholar, teacher, and storyteller on the realities of what it takes to be an effective leader. This is a superbly written, fascinating page-turner of a leadership primer—provocative and compelling!"

Thomas E. Cronin, Colorado College, USA

"Only a polymath like Genovese could write a leadership book that is grounded in serious scholarship but written with a warmth and wit that welcomes all readers."

Joanne B Ciulla, Jepson School of Leadership Studies, University of Richmond
