Two thousand years ago the Roman architect Marcus Vitruvius Pollio wrote the ten books on architecture establishing the concept of the pattern book offering design principles and solutions that is still referred to in every architect's education. A Green Vitruvius is intended as a green pattern book for today. Now fully updated, this well established textbook provides advice suitable for undergraduate and post graduate students on the integration of sustainable practice into the design and construction process, the issues to be considered, the strategies to be adopted, the elements of green design and design evaluation within the process. Classic design elegance is found in the holistic clear solution.

The Second edition of A Green Vitruvius is a welcome and timely publication offered to practicing architects who wish to provide an exemplary service in designing and realising sustainable buildings and space. Eleven years since its first edition, this is an up-to-date architectural manual guiding its readers through process of design and construction, discussing issues and elements, strategies and evaluation tools for green design , planning and construction. The content is developed within broader context of the EU regulatory framework, the international commitments and response to climate change and need for rational use of energy resources and the international declarations by professional architectural bodies like the UIA and the Architects Council of Europe. The rich and well-illustrated reference material makes the publication relevant internationally and applicable by green-conscious architects' practices in different and place-specific contexts. The renewed edition of A Green Vitruvius is a valuable resource for practical application and continual professional development of architects. It resonates well with the voice of the Architects Council of Europe and its ambition to lead the architectural profession through an evolution and aspiration to assert itself as the integrative, holistic and leading force within complex developments of this time.
