The Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) systems provide air traffic controllers with the information necessary to ensure the specified separation between aircraft and efficient management of airspace, as well as assistance to flight crew for safe navigation. However, the radar systems that support air traffic management (ATM), and in particular air traffic control (ATC), are at their... Read more

Biography

Dr Busyairah Syd Ali is Senior Lecturer at the Department of Software Engineering at University of Malaya, Malaysia. She completed her PhD at the Centre for Transport Studies, Imperial College London. Dr Syd Ali investigated the limitations of radar which lead to aircraft incidents, developed a safety assessment framework for a new surveillance technology called Automatic Dependant Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B), and its impact on air traffic management operations. She has worked as an operations and maintenance engineer for air traffic control systems at Kuala Lumpur International Airport for five years.
