Biography
Katajun Amirpur is a distinguished professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Cologne. Her research encompasses Iranian intellectual history, Islamic reform discourses, gender issues, and Islamic environmental ethics. Among her notable publications are Iran ohne Islam, New Thinking in Islam: The Jihad for Freedom, Democracy, and Women’s Rights, and Khomeini: Der Revolutionär des Islams.
"Katajun Amirpur's book on Mohammad Mojtahed Shabestari provides a crucial perspective on this leading and influential figure within the context of Muslim reformism in post-revolutionary Iran. Amirpur's analysis fills a significant gap in understanding the evolution of intellectual thought within contemporary Islam, particularly focusing on Shabestari's contributions as a moral thinker. This type of study is important for comprehending the complex landscape of religious and intellectual discourse in Iran and beyond."
