Biography

Karen Cripps (SFHEA) is an Associate Professor in Responsible Management and Leadership at Oxford Brookes University Business School (United Kingdom).  Her research practice centres on aligning student sustainability learning with employability and aligns deeply with the United Nations-supported initiative 'Principles of Responsible Management Education' (PRME), for which she sits on the Working Group for ‘Climate Change and Environment’ and co-leads a Working Group on ‘Careers and Sustainability’.

Candy Ho is a Chancellor’s Chair and Educational Studies Faculty at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (Canada), where she leads research on integrating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into curricula and teaches courses that connect learning, work, and purpose. An international award-winning career development educator, she works at the intersection of career development and sustainable development, advancing career practices that support equity, hope, and transformative change.

"This book is a beacon of insight, answering the critical question  ‘How can we integrate Green Transitions throughout every organisation?’   A clear, comprehensive, and practical look into the essential skill-sets that embed Green mindsets; it showcases how this is already happening in many sectors and across the globe."

Diana Collett, Climate Coaching Alliance - Political Pod Co-founder

"As organisations navigate the realities of the green transition, this book invites leaders and practitioners to learn from lived experiences around the world. It moves beyond lists of ‘green skills’, weaving perspectives that stretch from ancient Chinese philosophy and indigenous wisdom to innovative responses to today’s challenges. It includes unique perspectives not seen in other books, such as how business leaders in Ukraine are managing long-term change on a wartime footing, and draws lessons from organisations ranging from hotels to charity shops. For Human Resource and organisational development professionals, it offers a thoughtful, practical exploration of the skills we can together develop to help organisations adapt, grow and contribute to a more sustainable future."

Charly Cox, Climate Change Coaches - Coach and Co-Founder

"This compelling guide energises the global conversation on green workforce transformation. Drawing on diverse international expertise and practical insights from 14 countries and 17 profit/not-for-profit organisations, it reveals the transferable and transformative skills organisations urgently need. A must-read for leaders and practitioners seeking to cultivate talent capable of driving bold, equitable and enduring climate action across every sector."

William E. Donald, Liverpool John Moores University -  Professor of Sustainable Careers & Inclusive Practice

"An important book at an important time. This book shines a light on the opportunity for organisations to get ahead, with great insights in relation to the skills and workforce management that are key to the transformation required. The time is now."

Kirsty Green-Mann, Hays PLC - Group Head of Sustainability

"People always want to know what they can do to build a career fighting climate change. This excellent book provides answers, in a way that is both informative for individuals seeking their own guidance, and for policymakers who aim to build better systems."

Brett Favaro, Kwantlen Polytechnic University - Dean, Science and Horticulture

"This publication offers a fresh perspective on “green guidance” for anyone working in career education, employment services, and labour force development. Shining a spotlight on the idea that “every job is a climate job”, the authors highlight emergent labour market needs and share practical strategies for preparing workers and employers for a green workforce transformation."

Sareena Hopkins, Canadian Career Development Foundation - Executive Director

"From the very first chapter, my brain was fizzing with ideas I could apply to my own work! An inspiring guide for leaders seeking practical ways to engage every employee in building the green capabilities that make organisations more resilient and innovative in our rapidly changing world."

Vicky Howat, Climate Fresk UK - Head

"Good career decision-making is supported by understanding the job market. While environmental and sustainability roles and green jobs are often highlighted as increasingly important, it is not always clear which skills will be useful. This book is a fabulous resource that reminds us that job titles do not define or limit the impact we can make."

Heather Lowery-Kappes, Career Development Association of New Zealand, Aotearoa - Fellow and Past President

"Amid growing global attention to green guidance and sustainable career development, this book offers a timely, practice-oriented roadmap for embedding green skills across all roles. The editors and contributing authors are to be commended for assembling such a diverse, globally grounded body of practice that meaningfully connects sustainability, workforce transformation, and career development for a just green transition."

Sachin Kumar, WRS Government College - Principal; International Association for Educational and Vocational Guidance (IAEVG) - Member, Board of Directors

"This book brings authoritative and actionable guidance on the skills essential for green workforce transformation. It is a vital guide for organisations seeking to embed green competencies across their workforce."

Arun Mittal, Asia Pacific Career Development Association -  Executive Director

"While the phrase “all jobs are green jobs” is frequently used, its practical meaning is rarely explored. This book brings the phrase to life. It offers clear insights into the breadth of beyond-technical green skills, drawing on the most recent research and perspectives. Skilfully balancing theory, guidance, and real-world examples, it is a valuable read for academics, leaders, and employees alike."

Kathrin Möbius, The Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) -   Sustainability in Learning and Teaching Lead

"An Organisational Guide to Skills for Green Workforce Transformation is a timely, whole-systems roadmap turning climate urgency into workforce capability. Grounded in Project Drawdown’s framework, the authors expand green skills beyond technical roles to include transformational leadership, responsible action, and a global work ethic, thereby galvanizing workforce climate resilience."

Elisabeth Montgomery, InterLangua LLC - President and Asia Pacific Career Development Association - President & Legacy Partner

"As sustainability becomes a core organisational risk, treating it as a specialist function is no longer viable. This book demonstrates why capability must be decentralised — and, crucially, provides leaders with a clear, actionable pathway to make that shift real."

Andy Nelson, The Positive Career Coach - Founder

"Sustainability demands an all-hands workforce of boundary-spanning connectors, translators, and value creators who turn strategy into action and mission into impact. Drawing on practical insights from across the globe, this book shows how to unleash every employee’s talent as part of a thriving green workforce."

Wendy M. Purcell, Rutgers University -  Professor and Vice Chair Education and Visiting researcher at Harvard University and Visiting Professor at University College London

"With growing lists of green skills and competencies, this book presents a unique compilation of real cases, representing diverse cultural and geographical contexts, of how we can accelerate the development of transferable and transformative capabilities. It can be done - it IS being done! Inspiring and applicable."

Isabel Rimanoczy, Ed.D. The Sustainability Mindset Indicator - Founder/Author

"This book reminds us that structurally unsustainable economies and climate chaos are not only technical problems or unavoidable tragedies, but can and will need to be overcome by the actions of empowered workers. This must be an age of practical application, work with social purpose, and workplace democracy. This book is a welcome addition to building the case for human level solutions to global problems."

Sam Perry, Trades Union Congress - Policy Lead for the Hea Workforce

"At a time when “green skills” risk becoming a cosmetic layer on extractive and growth-oriented models, this book reclaims sustainability as a transformative project. It offers concrete guidance for embedding ecological responsibility into roles, cultures, business models, without ignoring power relations and structures. A much needed inspiration!"

Tomáš Šprlák, Exploring Green Guidance

"In a climate-changed world marked by unbounded complexity, uncertainty, and a quiet erosion of hope, this book arrives as both a necessary and enabling contribution. It moves beyond narrow, technical definitions of “green jobs” and instead reframes the green transition as a deeply human endeavor––one that requires imagination, courage, and collective agency across the entire workforce. By amplifying the voices of global industry leaders, the chapters illuminate how every role can contribute to climate resilience, regeneration, and justice."

Kent A. Williams, Centre for Regenerative Futures, University of Victoria - Research Fellow and Impact Network 4 Regenerative Futures - Co-Lead
