Biography
Revd Dr Phillip Tovey has been teaching theology for the Diocese of Oxford in their training programmes for 10 years and also teaches at Ripon College Cuddesdon. His interest in the Anglican Communion is informed by being a part of the Inter Anglican Liturgical Consultation for the past 20 years.
’In this outstanding book Dr Tovey uses hitherto unknown evidence to uncover the importance of Confirmation in the eighteenth century. The result is an important and ground breaking study that will shape scholars' views of popular piety and adherence to the Church.’ William Gibson, Oxford Brookes University, UK ’... a fascinating study, and one that persuades the reader that confirmation was in-deed taken seriously in the 18th century.’ Church Times ’Philip Tovey’s Anglican Confirmation is an effective survey on this history and use of confirmation within the Anglican Communion that will certainly benefit church historians and liturgists alike.’ Expository Times
