Ramani Kandasamy is a Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, Chennai, India, and holds 20 years of extensive academic, research and industrial collaborative experience. She received her Ph.D. in Microbiology-Environmental Technology from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR-CLRI), Chennai, where she specialized in Microbiology-driven environmental solutions. Her research is centred on developing sustainable, eco-efficient biotechnological strategies for industrial solid and liquid waste management including the bioremediation of emerging pollutants from petrochemical industries, refineries, leather processing and municipal waste sectors. She has significantly contributed to advancing microbial fermentation technologies for the conversion of industrial wastes into high value-added biomolecules such as biosurfactants, industrial enzymes, and biocatalysts. Her research work also spans strain improvement technologies, biosurfactant-assisted hydrocarbon remediation, production of magnetic nanoparticles through green synthesis and surface-functionalized carrier materials for enhanced pollutant removal. Her research extends to the remediation of hydrocarbon-contaminated soils and process development for the treatment of toxic landfill leachates enabling resource recovery within circular bioeconomy frameworks. She has successfully executed multiple government- and industry-funded research projects and has authored numerous articles in international high-impact journals, conference proceedings and edited volumes. Her strong commitment to translational research has led to active collaborations with industrial partners for pilot-scale demonstration of eco-efficient solutions. She serves as research mentor to postgraduate and doctoral researchers facilitating multidisciplinary innovations aligned with sustainable development priorities. She continues to contribute immensely to the real-field through her research outreach, scientific evaluations and technology transfer activities aimed at achieving scalable environmental remediation technologies.
