"Community, Environment, and Local Governance in Indonesia: Locating the Commonweal is a very welcome volume in which authors with sustained involvement in the region examine the consequences for resource issues of the first post-Suharto decade.  The volume compiles a well-selected range of case studies representing a diversity of cultural and ecological landscapes, including the main resource sectors of agriculture, fishing, forestry, mining, and tourism.  Significantly, beyond a collection of case studies, it aims to present broadly applicable principles drawn from their common factors...Through its excellent case studies and astute discussion, Community, Environment, and Local Governance in Indonesia expertly and comprehensively alerts the scholars and policymakers to whom it is addressed to the factors and spheres involved in achieving equitable and sustainable resource management." -- Lene Pederson, Journal of Anthropological Research, Vol. 66, 2010
