“Competence and Self‑Care in Counselling and Psychotherapy is an exceptional and deeply thoughtful exploration of what it truly means to be a therapist in today’s world. Drawing together rich theory, clinical insight and practical wisdom, this book offers a holistic and profoundly human account of the self, and of the work of therapy as a relational, embodied and socially embedded practice. This book is an invaluable companion for therapists at every stage of their career. It is a wise, generous and much‑needed update and contribution to the field, offering guidance that is both practical and deeply inspiring.”

-- Divine Charura, York St John University

“The connection between therapeutic competence and self care is re-edited in this second edition with a focus on how society has changed after Covid 19. Today more than ever, we need to work and believe that self care is not just care for the therapist but also care for society. With its clear and wide descriptions of basic concepts of Gestalt therapy, this book can be a useful tool for therapists and students who approach their profession in a very difficult world.”
