Dr Gopi Biju holds a M.B.B.S degree from Medical College, Trivandrum in the year 1981 and BCCPM (PALLIATIVE MEDICINE) from General Hospital, Ernakulam, in 2020. He is the recipient of the national fellowship of palliative medicine 2021-22, in institute of palliative medicine, calicut medical college, kozhokode, kerala, India and the global fellowship program in palliative medicine from Pallium India, Trivandrum, Kerala. He has worked as Consultant Palliative Physician, Palliative Physician and General Practitioner since 1984 till date in several medical colleges and hospitals suc as Khorfakkan Hospital, Sharjah,U.A.E and Pain and Palliative Care Dept, Lakeshore Hospital, Nettoor, Ernakulam, Kerala, India to name a few. He has very rich clinical experiences in and around the globe, some of which are as follows:

    Clinical Experience and Job Description:

    • Started the Pain and Palliative Home Care facilities for the first time in Lakeshore Hospital during the Covid Pandemic. Made all the SOPs for the smooth functioning of the Department. Extended the facility by opening IP facilities and admitting patients for Terminal care under Palliative Care Dept, Consultation for Palliative care from other in-house departments, like Oncology, Pulmonology, Cardiology, Neurology and Physical Rehabilitation. Home Care facility is well established now.
    • Started a Joint Venture called “Doctor on Wheels” in Association with Signature Aged Care, Chalikkavattom, Ernakulam, Kerala with the view of providing Palliative and     curative care especially for elderly patients who have difficulty in visiting doctors in the hospitals due to the restrictions due to the Lockdown during the Corona Pandemic. This has been a blessing for a lot of old people and their families who were in a dilemma as to what to do for the care of their aged relatives who could not be taken to hospitals for treatment and follow up.
    • Worked in Peace Mission Centre, as Palliative Physician taking care of terminally ill patients with cancer and other end of stage chronically ill patients after obtaining my BCCPM course certification.
    • Worked in Al Ghail Medical Centre, Al Ghail, R.A.K, as General Practitioner looking after workers in the Al Ghail Free Zone and the local patients residing in the area.
    • Worked in Reem Al Nahda Medical Centre as General Practitioner conducting Family Medical Practice.
    • Completed Basic life support course as per American Heart Association guidelines conducted by Eduscope International LLC, Dubai Health Care City, Dubai, U.A.E, and became a BLS Provider on 22nd August 2016

    ·       In Metro Medical Centre and Dr. Sanjay Medical Centre, I was working as a General Practitioner looking after the company patients in the clinic as well as in the company clinics.

    ·       Grand Sunny Medical Centre, is situated in the Industrial area no.2 in Sharjah, U.A.E. It is a part of Dr. Sunny Healthcare Group which is a well-established healthcare group in the Northern Emirates with several quality awards from the Govt. of Sharjah. I was the Medical Director and General Practitioner in the clinic which had a dental dept. and a female GP dept. in addition to the Male GP dept. We usually treated common illnesses and injuries among the labour class population who visited the clinic from the surrounding industrial area.

    ·       In Vitalis Medical Centre, Bangalore, India, I was working as a General Practitioner doing all the routine general practice in the multispecialty clinic with state-of-the-art healthcare facilities.

    ·       In Gopi Medical Clinic, Sharjah, I have set up a family practice clinic in 1993, in the Industrial area where low-income families and labourers were living, near their places of work. I was one of the first to implement a tailor-made Medical Insurance Policy for Factory workers in the area when no such medical insurance facility was available in the country. We had computerized our medical records from the inception of the clinic when it was a rarity in private practice. We had a system in place even in the early days for the safe disposal of hazardous medical waste when no such facility was available at that time.

    ·       In Kuwaiti Hospital, Sharjah, I had worked in the Paediatric department and with the Anesthesiology Consultant had set up the Paediatric ICU and NICU. We used to manage critically ill children in our department without the need to refer to other tertiary hospital.

    ·       In Khorfakkan Hospital, Sharjah, I joined the new Hospital in the Accident and Emergency Dept. which was not fully functional. On the instruction of the Director of the Hospital at the time, we made the A & E Dept. fully functional in time for the official opening of the Hospital by the Ruler of Sharjah in 1984.

    ·       At present, he is working as Consultant Palliative Physician at Pain and Palliative Care Dept, Lakeshore Hospital, Nettoor, Ernakulam, Kerala, India. He is the member of the Indian Medical Association, Trivandrum Branch.

Dr. Reuel Ajith finished an MD degree in June 2021 from the Faculty of Medicine in Vilnius University, Lithuania. His research interests are in Internal medicine with a focus on neuro-degenerative diseases. He was in a team of researchers that developed the usage of artificial intelligence and free-speech to detect early signs of Parkinson’s disease (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.engappai.2018.09.018). The early detection mechanism used signal and speech processing techniques integrated with machine learning algorithms. He is affiliated with Machine Intelligence Research Labs (MIR Labs) dealing with AI and health care related projects.
