Biography

Carlos Perez is an Associate Professor and departmental chair of a Behavioral Sciences department at a liberal arts university. He is also a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor.

"Deconstructing Toxic Masculinity is an innovative, readable book that offers a thoughtful and inclusive approach to understanding toxic masculinity. Carlos Perez documents how toxic masculinity harms men through rigid expectations that stifle emotional expression and prevents them from being fully human. Rather than framing the issue in polarized debates or binary power struggles, Deconstructing Toxic Masculinity explores the systemic norms that create and sustain harmful behaviors, and invites us into a collaborative reimagining of masculinity. By fostering empathy and self-reflection instead of assigning blame or prescribing fixed solutions, Perez seeks to transcend limiting definitions and create a framework for masculinity that benefits all of us."
