Biography

Dr Rebecca Shaaf is the subject leader for Geography in the School of Society, Enterprise and Environment at Bath Spa University. Her research and teaching interests are in the areas of development and sustainability. Her recent research focuses on the role of community organisations and NGOs in the achievement of sustainable wellbeing outcomes.

"Rebecca Schaaf’s ambitious text fills a glaring lacuna in development studies with its systematic examination of development organizations, from global level donor agencies to local NGOs. This clearly written and provocatively illustrated book is the first to critically scrutinize the breadth, motivation, histories and complexity of the entities that do development." Dr. Trevor Birkenholtz, Department of Geography at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, USA.
