Biography

Jørgen Amdahl is a professor at the Department of Marine Technology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway. He received his MSc degree in 1975 and the PhD degree in 1983 from the Norwegian Institute of Technology, Trondheim. In the Period 2013-2023 Amdahl is a key researcher in the Centre of Excellence funded by the Norwegian Research Council: AMOS – Autonomous Marine Operations and Systems at NTNU, and manager of project 3: Risk Management and Maximized Operability of Ships and Ocean Structures. Amdahl is co-author of the book Nonlinear Analysis of Offshore Structures (Research Studies Press – 2002), co-author of more than 80 journal papers and 160 conference papers, and Associate Editor and member of the Editorial Board of various international journals. Furthermore, Amdahl has been instrumental in the development of the computer program USFOS for nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of ocean structures Carlos Guedes Soares is Distinguished Professor of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal. He received his Master and Ocean Engineering degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, in 1976, his PhD degree from the Norwegian Institute of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway, in 1984, and his Doctor of Science degree from the Technical University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal, in 1991. Guedes Soares is Scientific Coordinator at the Centre for Marine Technology and Engineering (CENTEC), a research centre of Instituto Superior Técnico that is recognized and funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. Guedes Soares is Editor and member of the Editorial Board of various international journals and has been involved in the organisation of several International Conferences.
