He is a Certified Safety Professional renowned for his expertise in hazardous materials management and safety programs. With a diverse academic background including degrees in Health Care Services, Hazardous Materials Management, and Environmental Science, as well as a Juris Doctorate, he also possesses experience through his extensive military service and civilian roles in safety management for various industries, including mining, reflect his commitment to preventive measures.

Daniel J (DJ) Schmutz is the owner of MSHA Safety Services Inc in Mountain View, Wyoming, USA, a training and safety/industrial hygiene consulting firm that oversees a team supporting over 350 mining companies nationwide. His education includes degrees in Biology, Public Health, and Occupational Safety and Health with a specialization in Environmental Management.
