    Aligned with the CCSS and the TEKS College and Career Readiness Standards, IIM: Teaching Research Skills in Grades K-12 offers a comprehensive plan for integrating a schoolwide research program into existing curriculum. The seven-step Independent Investigation Method (IIM) guides students through group and independent research projects, empowering them with the skills to conduct research in any discipline and to pursue projects in subjects of most interest to them. This teacher's manual provides the tools to implement the IIM program with students at all grade levels, acting as a template on which to build curriculum that both fulfills local and state requirements and is appropriate for all students' skill levels and needs.

    This manual includes:

    • steps for the whole-class process, in which students learn basic research skills;
    • steps for the independent process, in which students apply skills in individual and small-group studies;
    • reproducible pages for designing and implementing units;
    • sample research studies using the independent process;
    • reproducible assessment forms and student handouts;
    • teacher resource pages; and
    • online access to editable teacher, student, and assessment forms.
