Infant Circumcision and Human Rights A Test of Tolerance and Cultural Relativism
Biography
Robert S. Van Howe is a board-certified general pediatrician with over 30 years of clinical experience. He is currently the Medical Director for four public health departments responsible for ten counties in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and a Clinical Professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, USA.
"A timely and engaging contribution to an ongoing and often overlooked debate, Dr. Robert Van Howe’s thought-provoking and clearly articulated analysis takes a close look at infant circumcision through the lens of individualistic human rights at the intersection of the ethical perspectives of Kant, Dwyer, and Rawls. Challenging long held and deeply entrenched cultural assumptions, Dr. Van Howe invites scholarly readers to think more carefully about consent, bodily integrity, and social norms."

"Van Howe forces readers to confront what is too often obscured by tradition, ideology, or convenience. A fierce and rigorously argued book on children’s rights and the limits of cultural relativism."
