Biography

Dr Surjya Narayana Pati, Senior Consultant (LCA), Director, NICE and former Joint Director, National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCB), has a rich research experience spanning over more than four decades in the areas of Life Cycle Management, Environmental Management, Quality Control, Project Planning and Monitoring.

A CSIR Scholar and doctorate in Chemical Kinetics in 1978. He has been a front runner for incorporating the concept of Life cycle Assessment (LCA) in Indian cement and construction industry for green and sustainable development. He was associated with several LCA projects. He was advisor to LCA project on Pet Bottles carried out by IIT New Delhi. He was leading the NCB team which worked for Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) projects for Developing Environmental Norms for Indian Cement, Refractory and Plywood industries. He was associated more than seventy-five R&D and Sponsored projects. He has published more than sixty papers in different National and International Journals and Proceedings. He has reviewed several papers for International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment (IJLCA). He was a member of various committees of Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) on Environmental Management and LCA subcommittees. He was faculty member for different Institutes in more than fifty training courses on different topics of environmental management specially on LCA. He was also member of number of review committees for Ministry of Environment and Forest (Govt. of India) funded mega projects. He has guided several B. Tech, and M. Tech students of Environmental Engineering for their Project Assignment. He has also contributed papers on different seminars and workshops on Life Cycle Assessment organized by UNEP & SETAC during 2010, 2012, 2014 and International Life Cycle Management Conference of 2015 and 2017. He has visited number of Universities and Research Institutes of foreign countries.
