Biography

R. David Whitby is the Chief Executive of Pathmaster Marketing Ltd., a business development consultancy for the international downstream oil, gas and energy industries, which he founded in 1992. He holds extensive experience in the lubricants sector, beginning his career as a process chemist with British Petroleum in Western Australia.  He worked for BP in the UK for 22 years in various management roles, including as global project manager for industrial lubricant R&D.  David was the Program Director for Lubricants Courses at the Oxford Princeton Program and he also ran the Advanced Lubrication Training Program for the United Kingdom Lubricants Association (UKLA). He has published numerous papers on lubricants, chaired and lectured at international conferences and has directed over 120 training courses on lubricants in more than 30 countries. A Certified Lubrication Professional and member of the US Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE), David writes the bimonthly "Worldwide" column for Tribology and Lubrication Technology since 2004. In addition to running Pathmaster Marketing, he was Non-Executive Chairman of Microbial Solutions Ltd., a start-up from the University of Oxford, from 2007 to 2015, and a Non-Executive Director of the Sonic Development Company Ltd., from 1998 to 2003. He has authored three books, including Lubricant Blending and Quality Assurance, Lubricant Analysis and Condition Monitoring, and Lubricant Marketing, Selling and Key Account Management, all published by CRC Press.
