"Medieval Literature: An Introduction to Type-Scenes is a long overdue and very welcome contribution to scholarship. Its practical utility for students and teachers is obvious and immense... Teachers of medieval English literature will be especially grateful to Battles for helping them to put a name and a scholarly literature to the patterns that they invariably notice. Previously, a teacher making such observations would not know where to begin. Now, it is clear that the place to begin is Battles’ book."
