Biography

Professor Ian Beckett is Visiting Professor of Military History at the University of Kent. A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, he is also Chairman of the Council of the Army Records Society. He has held chairs previously at the universities of Luton and Northampton, and was the Major General Matthew C Horner Professor of Military Theory at the US Marine Corps University, Quantico, Virginia for 2002-2004. His many publications include Wolseley and Ashanti (2009), The Great War, 1914-18 (2nd edn., 2007), The Victorians at War (2003), The Amateur Military Tradition, 1589-1945 (1991), and Encylopaedia of Guerrilla Warfare (1999).
