Saud Akhtar began his professional career in the semiconductor industry, working across a range of technologies including FinFETs, SOI devices, and non-volatile memories to name a few. Throughout these experiences, what has consistently driven his interest is the underlying chemistry and physics of nanomaterials. Currently, he is working at Global Foundries as Senior Yield Engineer, where he is involved in the Yield Engineering team of 14 nm FinFET technology He completed his degree of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electronics and Telecommunication from KiiT University, Bhubaneswar, where he developed a strong interest in the fabrication and operation of electronic devices such as MOSFETs and PN junctions. This interest led him to pursue a degree of Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Semiconductor Materials and Devices at the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, IIT Hyderabad. During his master’s program, his thesis focused on the development of thin-film transistors using inorganic semiconductors through solution-based deposition techniques. His work involved thin-film formation, precursor chemistry, and the analysis of charge transport in oxide semiconductors, an area he found both challenging and intellectually engaging. Through collaboration with his peers, he was also exposed to emerging technologies such as RRAM and organic sensors, which further deepened his curiosity about the physics and chemistry of nanomaterials.
