The development of the technique of generating high-voltage nanosecond pulses based on the effect of a nanosecond opening switch in semiconductor diodes gave the prerequisites for the development of nanosecond electron accelerators with a pulse-periodic operation mode. Such accelerators generate high-intensity large beams that have a strong biological effect. However, to create industrial... Read more

Biography

Sergey Sokovnin is Head of the Electrophysical Technologies Group at the Institute of Electrophysics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IEP UB RAS) and Professor at the Institute of Physics and Technology of the Ural Federal University, Russia. He graduated from the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute in 1983 (now Tomsk Polytechnic University) and then obtained a degree of candidate in 1994 and doctor of technical sciences (in electrophysics) in 2005. His main areas of scientific interests are materials science and radiation technologies.

“I am very confident that this textbook will attract great interest in the pulsed power community and will be important to scientists and engineers involved in the many industrial applications of the SOS-based generators. I recommend this textbook for publication without any reservations.”
-Emeritus Prof. Yakov Krasik, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Israel.

“This book is a valuable resource for those seeking an in-depth understanding of nanosecond electron accelerators (NEAs), their design, operation, and applications. The comprehensive, practical, and detailed approach is made possible by the author’s involvement in all stages from SOS power supply development to NEA application design. The book combines theoretical foundations with practical examples, making it useful for researchers, engineers, and anyone interested in the field of radiation technologies.”
-Dr Anton Gusev, University of Pau, France.

“NEA technology, discussed in this book, is a valuable and efficient update for such industries that helps to cut down on environmental dose and provide the necessary afferent radiation protection.”
-Prof. Mihai O. Dima, Institute for Nuclear Physics and Engineering, Romania.

“This book describes the combination of repetitive accelerators based on a semiconductor opening switch for commercial applications. The theoretical and practical findings, based on 15 years of experience, are summarized. The book is a valuable source for education and reference.”
-Dr Olga Muter, University of Latvia, Latvia.
