Biography

Phetole Mangena obtained his PhD degree in Botany in the field of plant physiology and biotechnology. He is a senior lecturer and researcher in the Department of Biodiversity, School of Molecular and Life Sciences, Faculty of Science and Agriculture at the University of Limpopo, Republic of South Africa. Dr Mangena’s work involve micropropagation via tissue culture, crop improvement and breeding through mutagenic chemicals as well as Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation. He has authored and co-authored numerous scientific papers and book chapters related to genetic transformation and morpho-physiological responses of plants to stress. Dr. Mangena is the sole editor of the Book: Advances in Legume Research- Physiological Responses and Genetic Improvement for Stress Resistance, published in 2020 (Volume 1) by Bentham Science Publishers Pte. Ltd, Singapore. He currently serves as the editor for the Scopus indexed Research Journal of BioTechnology and a fellow-member of the World Researchers Association. He is also a board member of the New Plant Biotechnology Persa Journal, member of the South African Association of Botanists and the International Society for Horticultural Science. Dr. Mangena has received numerous honours and awards, including 1st prize in the Innovation Hub GAP Bioscience Competition and the Research Excellence Award by the National Research Foundation of South Africa.
