Biography
Dr. Jong S. Lim began his career in 1985 as a quality engineer at Hyundai Motor Company in Korea, focusing on manufacturing quality improvements for export models and resolving market quality issues in the United States. He earned his Ph.D. in Thermal Science from Duke University in 1991 under the supervision of Professor Adrian Bejan.
After completing his doctorate, Dr. Lim joined the Samsung Electronics R&D Center, where he developed
advanced thermal management systems for next‑generation products. In 1997, he moved to Honda Motor North America as new model quality manager, contributing to the development and launch of major models such as the Civic, Odyssey, and MDX. He later served as senior quality director at Honda’s U.S. engine plant, overseeing quality innovation in powertrain manufacturing.
In 2008, Dr. Lim became vice president of Quality at Renault Samsung Motors in Korea. There, he led new platform development in collaboration with Renault and Nissan and established a field‑driven quality management system that enabled the brand to achieve the No. 1 customer satisfaction ranking for ten consecutive years.
He subsequently joined the Geely Group in China as vice president of R&D Quality, leading new platform development in collaboration with Volvo for both Chinese and European markets. In recognition of his contributions to improving China’s automotive quality, he received the Best Foreign Expert Award from the Chinese government in 2016.
In 2019, Dr. Lim became senior director of Reliability Engineering at FAW Group, where he built the reliability architecture for FAW’s premium Hongqi models and next‑generation electric vehicle platforms.
Dr. Lim currently serves as a professor at Zhejiang University and CEO of QEMTechnologies, a global consulting firm specializing in quality, reliability, and innovation. He teaches industrial quality engineering and management
programs and advises manufacturing companies worldwide. He is also the author of Quality Management in Engineering (Taylor & Francis Group, 2019).
