Biography

José Tito Mendonça is Professor Emeritus of the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, and Docteur-ès-Sciences of the University of Paris-Orsay. He is a former Head of the Physics Department of IST. He launched the Euratom-IST Association, and worked at the Joint European Torus (JET) as scientific advisor. He created the Group of Lasers and Plasmas, and organised research groups in nuclear fusion, laser-plasma interactions and ultra-cold matter. He published five books and a few hundred papers. He made early contributions to laser-accelerators, plasma turbulence and spacetime optics.
