Rooted Leadership addresses an important issue that too few education books are really talking about: how we serve a growing population of highly mobile students and families. Grounded in years of real practice and filled with practical next steps, this book helps educators move beyond good intentions and into actions that lead to tangible results for students who deserve the stability that schools can provide.”

Rooted Leadership and its focus on providing stability and care for those students who transfer into our schools provides a roadmap not only for student success, but also for helping teachers to see this challenge through a different lens."

Chuck Benigno, Ph.D., Mississippi Superintendent of the Year 2014

“Leadership isn’t about reacting louder; it’s about leading steadier.

In Rooted Leadership, Tyler Watkins offers a timely and grounded response to one of the most overlooked challenges in schools today: student mobility. With clarity and compassion, this book shows leaders how belonging, predictability, and purpose can be intentionally designed into school systems so stability becomes a strategy, not a hope.

This is not abstract theory. It’s a practical, experience-informed guide for school leaders who want to ensure that even when students’ lives are in motion, school remains a place where they feel grounded, seen, and supported.”
