Biography

Kristine Aquino is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia. A sociologist and urban ethnographer with research expertise in Filipino migration, her work addresses migration regimes and migrant inequalities in global cities. She is the author of Racism and Resistance among the Filipino Diaspora: Everyday Anti-Racism in Australia (Routledge, 2017) and co-producer of ‘On Sundays, We Play’ (2023) a short film and photo art book documenting the leisure cultures of Filipina migrant domestic workers.   

Earvin Charles B. Cabalquinto is an Australian Research Council DECRA Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer at Monash University, Australia.  He is also an Honorary Visiting Fellow of the Humanities Research Centre at the Australian National University. His research expertise lies in the intersections of digital media, mobilities, migration, and ageing research. He is the author of (Im)mobile Homes: Family life at a distance in the age of mobile media and co-authored the book, Philippine Digital Cultures: Brokerage Dynamics on YouTube.

Valerie Francisco-Menchavez is Professor in the Department of Sociology and Sexuality Studies at San Francisco State University. Her first book, The Labor of Care: Filipina Migrants and Transnational Families in the Digital Age is an award-winning title that explores the dynamics of gender and technology of care work and intimacy in Filipino transnational families in the Philippines and the U.S. Her other recently published works include the book Caring for Caregivers: Filipina Migrant Workers and Community Building during Crisis.
