Biography

Pierre Cousineau is a psychologist in private practice in Montréal. He practices, teaches, and writes about schema therapy, supervises psychotherapists, and integrates therapeutic memory reconsolidation into his approach.

Sophie Côté is a psychologist in private practice in Québec. She is interested in the impact of psychotherapy on the brain and is an expert in therapeutic memory reconsolidation in humans and animals. She practices, teaches, and writes about coherence therapy and supervises psychotherapists.

“This valuable and lucidly written book is a beautiful integration, theoretically and practically, that shows how schema therapy can be enriched by concepts and practices from coherence therapy to identify, strategically target, and permanently update specific beliefs and predictions encoded in the range of early maladaptive schema systems. It is a wonderful resource for promoting schema healing.”

David Edwards, emeritus professor at Rhodes University in South Africa, clinical psychologist (South Africa and UK), ISST-certified trainer, and former ISST president

“The work of Cousineau and Côté has been an inspiration for me, and I believe that schema therapy and its development gain a lot by this book. I therefore recommend it with great pleasure!”

Remco van der Wijngaart, chair of the Dutch Society of Schema Therapy (VSt) and director/owner of the Dutch Institute for Schema Therapy

“This masterful book by Cousineau and Côté is a tremendous service not only to schema therapy and its worldwide practitioners, but also to the psychotherapy field as a whole, because it shows how to retool and maximize the effectiveness of a well-established therapy system with our 21st-century knowledge of memory reconsolidation as the brain’s core process of liberating, transformational change.”

Bruce Ecker, LMFT, co-founder of coherence therapy, co-director of the Coherence Psychology Institute, and co-author of Unlocking the Emotional Brain

“Cousineau and Côté present a thoughtful roadmap for aligning the strengths of schema therapy with a precise understanding of what the brain needs to truly unlearn entrenched predictive models. This book is a generous and valuable contribution to the global community of therapists.”
