Series in Astrobiology

About the Series

Aims and Scope of the Series

This exciting new book series will systematically cover the latest topics in the rapidly developing field of astrobiology. Astrobiology is concerned primarily with the origin and evolution of life on Earth, and search for extra-terrestrial life, at the microbial level in our Solar System, and intelligent life elsewhere. This new field is interdisciplinary, since it draws upon other disciplines, such as chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy, geology, planetary geology, modern science, and the engineering involved in the exploration of our Solar System and beyond.

The impact of astrobiology on the scientific community is growing almost daily, due to both its interdisciplinary nature and the increasing number of opportunities in this area, both in the USA and the rest of the world. Books in the series are authored or edited by the top experts in the field and are geared mostly towards advanced graduate students and established researchers and scientists in the field. Extensive references will be included, as well as good illustrations.

We are seeking authors for this series. The first step towards becoming an author for this series is to submit a proposal form, which can be downloaded from: http://www.crcpress.com/resources/authors/publishing

Please submit the proposal form to Rebecca Hodges-Davies, CRC Editor for Physics ([email protected]) or to Vera Kolb, Series Editor [email protected].

About the Series Editor

Vera M. Kolb earned her BS in Chemical Engineering and MS in organic chemistry from Belgrade University, and PhD in organic chemistry from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She is Professor Emerita of Chemistry at University of Wisconsin-Parkside (UW-P). During her first sabbatical from UW-P, she did research at the NASA Specialized Center of Research and Training (NSCORT) with Leslie Orgel (Salk Institute) and Stanley Miller (UCSD). In 1992, she received the UW-P Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Activity. During her second sabbatical she researched sugar-silicates in prebiotic context with Joseph Lambert (Northwestern University). In 2002, she was inducted into the Southeastern Wisconsin Educators’ Hall of Fame. She has over 150 publications, patents, and books, and has received numerous research awards from the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium/NASA. Prof. Kolb is editor/contributor for several books, including "Astrobiology: An Evolutionary Approach" (CRC, 2015), "Green Organic Chemistry and its Interdisciplinary Applications (CRC, 2016), and the 54-chapter "Handbook of Astrobiology" (CRC, 2019). Recently, she co-authored with Benton C. Clark "Astrobiology for a General Reader: A Questions and Answers Approach" (CSP, 2020), and "Systems Approach to Astrobiology" (CRC, 2023). She is currently editing "Guidebook for Systems Applications in Astrobiology" (CRC, 2024).
