Solid acid catalysts have been used mainly in petroleum refining and petrochemical processes. From the viewpoint of chemicals and energy resources, the utilization of resources other than fossil ones is important for overcoming environmental issues and constructing a sustainable society. One of the candidates for resources for chemicals is biomass. Solid acid catalysts should play important roles... Read more

Biography

Hideshi Hattori is professor emeritus, Hokkaido University, Japan. He is former president of the Catalysis Society of Japan. He chaired the Fourth Tokyo Conference on Advanced Catalytic Science and Technology held in 2002 and the International Symposia on Acid-Base Catalysis II and IV. Prof. Hattori’s field of interest is solid acid and base catalysis.

Yoshio Ono is professor emeritus, Institute of Science Tokyo (formerly Tokyo Institute of Technology), Japan, and the National Institute for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation, Japan. He has authored about 300 papers and reviews and is former president of the Catalysis Society of Japan and the Japan Association of Zeolites. He is one of the editors of Catalysis Surveys from Asia. Prof. Ono’s research interests include catalysis by zeolites and solid acids and bases.

This second edition clearly explains solid acid catalysis in an accessible way, covering both fundamental concepts and recent advances. It also addresses important topics such as clean energy and biomass conversion, which are becoming increasingly significant. As such books are rare in this field, it serves as a highly valuable and distinctive resource for students, researchers, and professionals.”
