Space System Architecture Analysis and Wargaming presents a single-source reference for two major topics that are not currently covered in literature related to subdisciplines of astronautics. It provides modeling and simulation tools to architect space systems and analysis, which include detailed discussions of various simulation tools: STK, SEAS, SOAP, AFSIM, EADSIM, and STORM.

Working through the types of analysis that can be performed with each toolkit, the book focuses on designing and evaluating alternative space systems and system of systems to meet mission requirements. It also addresses the field of space wargaming with two tools: Space Warfare Analysis Tool/Space Attack Warning and Space and Information Analysis Model.

The book is intended for professionals working in the fields of aerospace engineering, astronautical engineering, space systems engineering, and space wargaming. It will also interest graduate students who are studying spacecraft systems and space architecture.

    Biography

Dr. Larry Rainey is a retired US Air Force research and development officer. He has over 20 years of experience in the area of space systems engineering. His expertise in the space arena spans working in launch operations, on orbit operations, space research and development, helping to standup the original Space Warfare Center at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado, and conducting space systems architecture analysis for The Aerospace Corporation using the following space modeling and simulation tools: Systems Tool Kit(STK), System Effectiveness Analysis Simulation(SEAS), Satellite Orbit Analysis Program(SOAP), Extended Air Defense Simulation(EADSIM) and Synthetic Theater Operations Research Model (STORM). He also taught spacecraft design at the Air Force Institute of Technology the graduate school of the Air Force and teaching space modeling and simulation at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He has also worked for the Missile Defense Agency’s  Ballistic Missile Defense System in the Modeling and Simulation Directorate. He has published many articles on systems architecting and applications of cybernetic principles. In addition he has published six engineering text books. One of those is entitled Space Modeling and Simulation: Roles and Applications Throughout the System Life Cycle. He has also brought to the attention of the current Space Warfare Analysis Center the relationship between emergent behavior in space system of systems and force design integration. He has also consulted with a company supporting Space Systems Command on architecture development.
