There is a need to stimulate the inventive and creative design of architectural structures and to persuade architects and structural engineers to collaborate in this process, exploiting together new concepts, applications and challenges. Since 2010 the International Conference on Structures and Architecture has progressively become the world's leading event bridging the gap between Structures and Architecture.
In October 2016 the International Association of Structures and Architecture was formally constituted, and envisioned to be recognized worldwide as an exceptional and highly effective organization making a noteworthy contribution to the fields of Structures and Architecture. For this purpose, among other initiatives, the Association will promote actions aiming at the progress of all aspects of the theory and application of structures and architecture and will organise the international conference on structures and architecture every three years.
The aim of the book series Structures and Architecture is to explore and to promote the merging of the fields of Structures and Architecture, encompassing all the aspects related with the recent advances in the art, practice and theory of teaching, researching, designing and building structures.
